Cuomo, Hochul, Kick Off Campaign

Amherst, NY (WBEN) - In their first campaign event since they accepted their party's nomination this week at the State Democratic Convention, Governor Andrew Cuomo and his new running mate Kathy Hochul were in Amherst on Friday.

The two were fired up for their campaign.

"I don't want to just win, folks," Hochul said during her speech to a packed conference room. "We're not just going to win back all those Counties... we're going to kick butt in a way that people have never seen before."

After the event, Cuomo said there were numerous reasons he pegged the Buffalo native to possibly be the next Lieutenant Governor. "I think she brings knowledge of government," Cuomo said. "Local government, federal government, she's been in the Congress, and I was in the federal government also for eight years. I think that's a very helpful experience, people don't actually realize that a lot of what we do is vis-a-vis Washington."

Both the Governor and Hochul seem optimistic on what the future holds.

"We've got an amazing Governor, who loves and cares about our community and our state," Hochul said. "We've got a record to run on, and we've got opponents who are going to continue to say things that aren't exactly going to endear themselves to people in Western New York. Does anybody smell success here?"

This fall, Cuomo and Hochul will take on Republican challenger Rob Astorino and his running mate, Chemung County Sheriff Chris Moss.
