Domestic Dispute Ends with Deadly Crash in Buffalo

Buffalo, NY (AP/WBEN) A Buffalo man has died after a domestic dispute that ended with his car crashing into an apartment building.

Fire Commissioner Garnell Whitfield says the death came after a two-car chase Friday morning. Whitfield says the man apparently lost control of his car after ramming a vehicle carrying two of his relatives at Delaware and Great Arrow in North Buffalo and crashed into the apartment building.

Police Investigators say it began near Delaware Avenue and Linden Avenue when a Cadillac Escalade struck another vehicle in the rear, forcing that vehicle off the road near the Great Arrow Plaza. They say the Escalade continued on, through the plaza parking lot, and then striking another vehicle as it exited the parking lot. The second vehicle was struck as it was stopped at a red light on Great Arrow at Delaware. Accident Investigators say the Escalade then struck an apartment building at the corner of Delaware and Great Arrow.

Buffalo firefighters used the jaws of life to remove the driver from the Escalade. The driver, a 51 year old Buffalo male, was declared dead at the scene. Four other people, including one resident of the apartment building, suffered apparent non-life threatening injuries.

The residents in the apartment had to be displaced and were being assisted by the Red Cross and Crisis Services. The cause of the accident remains under investigation. An autopsy will be scheduled to determine the cause of death.
More than $250,000 in damage was reported to the apartment building and 28 residents have been displaced.
