Police Investigate Widespread Damage on Rochester Highways
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - Several law enforcement agencies are looking into whether damage sustained by 10 vehicles traveling on Rochester-area highways was caused by someone in a moving vehicle.
The incidents began in mid-April and most have occurred along Interstate 390 and state Route 390 in the neighboring towns of Greece and Gates. Police say motorists have reported shattered windows and other damage to their vehicles as they drove on local expressways.
Officials say the latest incident occurred Thursday when a window on a sport utility vehicle was shattered while traveling on Route 390's northbound lanes in Gates.
The FBI, Monroe County Sheriff's Office, state police and town of Greece police are investigating.
Sheriff's Cpl. John Helfer says investigators believe the person or persons causing the damage could have done it from inside a moving vehicle.
