Buffalo, NY (WBEN) The trial of Candace Cartagena has resumed, and a former medical examiner is on the stand.
Doctor Dianne Vertes says 8 year old Bianca Cartagena appeared to be healthy and normal.
She says Cartagena had a structurally normal heart; the defense's contention is Bianca died of a heart issue. She revised her autopsy findings eight months after the original examination and noted the manner of death was homicide.
Candace Cartagena is charged with suffocating her daughter, and Vertes says it can take minutes for a person to die after asphyxiation by another person.
