Woman Wrongly Convicted of Daughter's Death Dies

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - A New York woman who was freed from prison after being cleared of killing her teenage daughter has died from cancer.

A family spokesman says Lynn DeJac Peters died at her Buffalo home early Wednesday. She was 50.
DeJac Peters revealed in February 2013 that she had terminal cancer.
The diagnosis followed her 2007 release from prison, where she spent more than 13 years until her conviction for 13-year-old Crystallynn Girard's 1993 death was overturned on the basis of DNA evidence. The newly analyzed DNA placed DeJac Peters' former boyfriend in her daughter's bedroom around the time the teen died.
DeJac Peters reached a $2.7 million settlement with the state in November 2012. A federal lawsuit is pending.
