Amherst, NY (WBEN) National Grid is starting construction of its substation in Amherst. It's a $16 million project expected to be finished early next year.
National Grid's Steve Brady says demand has been consistently high in the Amherst area. "It will provide us with the capability to have eight circuits out of that station to provide relief to some in the existing area, as well as give us ample opportunity to be ready for growth," says Brady. He adds some of the equipment in the area was starting to strain.
Brady says at the commercial and residential level, "there continues to be more growth, new buildings, new construction, so it's too meet current demand with an eye to the future."
Brady says the new substation is expected to be ready in the spring.
