A Hamburg woman, struck down on the side of Big Tree Road has died, and police are continuing to search for eyewitnesses that can confirm it was a hit and run collision with a vehicle.
|On Jennifer Spillman Martello's Facebook page, a man assumed to be her husband Sam wrote this late Tuesday:
Hi. I am Sam, Jennifer’s husband . Jennifer was walking while being hit by an unknown "leaving-the-scene driver"...wow...this is very hard to write; but i have to express & honor her life, her soul & her spirit.
She passed away to heaven today on 7/15/2014 and she was my heartbeat and the most beautiful soul I have ever known. I ask that anyone and everyone pray for her & her family and her passing on. I am barely keeping it together, but i have to be there for our 14 month old baby Amelia.
Please remember her for how beautiful she is on the inside as it far overpowers the beauty she has on the outside: and we all know how gorgeous she is.
If anyone may have had any friction with her- forgive yourself, because life is precious and we will all eventually pass away and transition to the next world at some point.
I honestly can barely keep it together, but i will do my best to be strong and try to help others that experience what I have.
Jennifer deserves to be honored, respected and loved for having the most wonderful heart I have ever known.
Please pray and give thought and compassion towards her parents, her baby, and her family as love is the most powerful force in the universe and also all of existence.
God bless you Jenny: u will be in my heart forever as well as many that care for you that are reading this and/or have known you! Love-love-love ,-Sam Martello (a husband that never know how wonderful a person could ever be---thank you Jennifer! I love u!
Spillman was a waitress, and the mother of a 2 year old girl, Ameila.
And while police are looking at the incident as an apparent hit and run-- they do not have enough evidence to say much about how the incident happened or the vehicle that struck her.
In a series of Facebook postings on her page, her husband Sam Martello said she had been hit by a car by " an unknown 'leaving-the-scene driver'.
“She was murdered. Whether it was vehicular manslaughter, a hit and run. She was murdered. The person got away,” Martello told WKBW, Channel 7 Eyewitness News..
In several interviews with area media, he has said she was taking a late night walk near their home, to clear her head, after losing a job opportunity. He tells WKBW that he pleaded for her not to leave home , and even took her purse to prevent her from venturing out.
Hamburg police are still looking for eyewitnesses who can help them figure out what happened.
"At this point in the investigation, there are very few details available and the investigation is ongoing," Police said in an early morning statement.
Anyone that has information that may assist in the investigation is urged to call the Town of Hamburg Police Department at 716-648-5111 ext. 2502.
Police were also seen entering a nearby home and towing away a car and police say debris was recovered at the side of the road.
"There were some items taken at the scene, whether they were affiliated with a car I can't say," Capt. Peter Dienes tells WBEN.
