BlueCross BlueShield of WNY Cutting Medicaid Programs
(WBEN) -- 53,000 western New Yorkers will be affected as BlueCross BlueShield cuts its Medicaid coverage by November.
BlueCross BlueShield is withdrawing its Medicaid programs due to financial concerns. It will affect residents in Erie, Wyoming, Orleans, Allegany, Cattaraugus and Chautauqua counties.
A representative tells WBEN they will not be losing coverage, but instead transitioning.
The corporation says it's lost $40 million over the last three years due to underfunding from the state. Congressman Chris Collins in a news release Friday blamed the Affordable Care Act's expansion of Medicaid.
