Hamburg, NY (WBEN/AP) - Bernard Grucza, the man who pled guilty to killing Hamburg Toys "R" Us manager Larry Wells has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.
Grucza could have faced a longer sentence if convicted of murder. Gruzca pled guilty to manslaughter earlier this year. He didn't speak during his sentencing in state Supreme Court in Buffalo.
Grucza stabbed Wells when he found him inside the Toys "R" Us store in Hamburg early in the morning as he was attempting to rob it. Also a Toys "R" Us employee, Gruzca was seen later in the day outside the store comforting employees.
Grucza pleaded guilty in April to a reduced charge of manslaughter in the slaying of 35-year-old Laurence Wells II.
Police say Grucza was robbing the safe at the store when Wells walked in on him in the early morning hours of June 29, 2013. Grucza stabbed Wells and left him bleeding in the office. Wells was found by other employees and later died at a hospital.
