Strange Stretch of Seven Fires In N.Tona Overnight

(WBEN) Fire fighters have been busy in the city of North Tonawanda with an unusual yet apparently unrelated spate of seven fires overnight.

The fires all erupted in the same neighborhood; on Zimmerman Road, Goundry Street, but officials don't think that it was necessarily arson. , but rather a set of coincidences.

"Fire investigators form both Niagara County and North Tonawanda Police and Fire  are going through each scene collecting evidence and it will be a week or so before we get any thing back,' says Fire Chief John Lapham

In a couple of cases, it appears fires that spread to houses actually broke out in parked vehicles

"Most of the damages were heat damages done to bu9ildings adjacent to the  vehciles,"  Lapham says.

Off duty crews from North Tonawanda were joined by volunteers from Adams, Shawnee, Frontier and St. Johnsburg volunteer departments, Lapham says.

There were no reported injuries.

The run on fires comes after an arson spree hit the city earlier this year in a different neighborhood.

Michelle Johnston, 41,  was accused of setting nine arsons near her Fifth Avenue home, and was re-arrested after police accused her of setting two more fires as soon as she got out of jail on the earlier charges.
