The Aug. 9 shooting of Michael Brown by police has touched off rancorous protests in Ferguson, a St. Louis suburb where police have used riot gear and tear gas. Gov. Ferguson Incident Unlikely Here

Buffalo, NY (WBEN) The headlines have been filled with the incident in Ferguson, MO. Some are wondering if it could happen here. Buffalo's mayor says it's unlikely.

Mayor Byron Brown says there's a strong focus in diversity in recruitment in police and fire hirings. "Re-establishing the community police officer program, pushing for residency in hiring, which we were able to secure in the last contract with the Buffalo Professional Firefighters (Union). So that confirms we're on the right track," explains Brown.

Brown says funding for Peacemakers, a program aimed at preventing violence, has also helped.
