Orleans County Woman, 24, Re-enters Senate Race After Admitting Extramarital Affair
(WBEN) -- A Republican state senate candidate in New York's 62nd district is getting back in the race after admitting to an extramarital affair and dropping out one week ago.
Gia Arnold, 24, of Orleans County, admitted to an extramartial affair in an official Facebook posting. In a statement released yesterday she said at the time she was feeling "hurt, upset, angry and thinking more of my current situation, rather than the big picture." In the Facebook post she called it "an escape from an already declining marriage."
However, in the statement she says she was overwhelmed by the outpouring of support since her announcement with constituents calling for her to tackle issues for the district in Albany.
The 62nd District covers Niagara and Orleans Counties. She'll face North Tonawanda Mayor Rob Ortt in a September Republican primary as they seek to replace 19-year incumbent George Maziarz who announced this summer he was not seeking reelection.
