Buffalo, NY (WBEN) Buffalo Teachers will picket next week before the school year begins. It's been ten years since they've had a contract.
BTF President Phil Rumore says the pickets will take place Tuesday and Wednesday 30 minutes before they report to their buildings. These are the final two days before students report. Rumore adds there will be additional informational pickets on Wednesdays before the start of school and a big rally on Sept. 10th before the Buffalo School Board meeting.
"They're about $20,000 behind other teachers in other districts, our class sizes are too high, we don't have enough support for English language learners. We've waited long enough for a contract," says Rumore.
Rumore says the board has $40-60 million to settle the contract dispute. He adds the union's fact finding brief was submitted today, and will notify teachers when the fact-finder releases his report.
