Sabres Re-Sign Forward Ellis to One-Year Contract


Buffalo, NY (AP/WBEN) -- The Buffalo Sabres have re-signed unrestricted free agent forward Matt Ellis to a one-year contract.

Ellis, a gritty fourth-line player, rejoins the team for a third season. He set career-highs with 13 points - three goals, ten assists - and 72 games played last year. The signing was announced by the teamTuesday, Ellis' 29th birthday.

Kennedy Signs with Rangers


Buffalo, NY (WBEN) Tim Kennedy, the South Buffalo native released by the Sabres after receiving an arbitration award of $1 million, has signed with the New York Rangers.

Kennedy has reportedly signed a one year deal worth $550,000.

The Sabres walked away from the arbitration award, but are paying Kennedy a third of that as part of the team's buyout.

Former Sabre MacArthur Signs With Leafs


Toronto, ON (AP/WBEN) -- Forward Clarke MacArthur has signed a one-year deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs. The team announced the deal with MacArthur, an unrestricted free agent, on Saturday.

MacArthur had 16 goals and 19 assists last season between the Buffalo Sabres and the Atlanta Thrashers, who acquired him on March 3 in exchange for draft picks.

Spiller Delivers as Bills Beat Bengals 35-20


Orchard Park, NY (AP/WBEN) -- Rookie running back C.J. Spiller scored twice, leading the Bufalo Bills to a 35-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in a preseason game Saturday night.

After scoring on a one-yard run, the first-round pick put the Bills ahead for good, 21-14, with a 20-yeard touchdown run in the final minute of the first half. Spiller now has three touchdowns in two starts in place of injured veterans Fred Jackson and Marshawn Lynch.

HAMILTON: Owens sees a new and improved Bills offense


Terrell Owens came back to Buffalo and had three catches for 35 yards including a 16 yarder beating Leodis McKelvin rather badly. The Bills CB made up for it the very next play keeping tight coverage on Owens on a streak down the sideline and then knocking the ball down.

The Sabres continue to fill out the Portland Pirates roster by signing Colin Stuart. In 51 games with Atlanta Stuart scored eight goals and five assists including four shorthanded goals.

Buffalo, NY (WBEN) The Sabres will get plenty of national exposure in the upcoming season. The defending Northeast Division champions will appear in 13 nationally televised games in the US and Canada.

Bills break camp with the head coach livid


Chan Gailey was all fired up by the end of the final St.John-Fisher training camp practice. There was a group of teenagers who attended many practices and frequently screamed nasty, vulgar and negative things at the players. Many comments were aimed at Trent Edwards. Gailey went over and told those fans that when they rip one player, they rip all of them.
