Lackawanna High School Student Killed in Yemen

Lackawanna, NY (WBEN)- A Lackawanna High School Junior, who had gone to Yemen to get married with plans to return to Western New York to finish her education was killed in a bomb blast outside the US Embassy in Yemen.

Lackawanna High School Principal Peter Hazzan tells WBEN that counsellors have been dealing with students and teachers on the campus already today. Hazzan says he spoke to Susan Elbaneh just before end of the school year, when she explained that she was going to Yemen over the summer to get married, with the plans to return and finish high school this year.

Family has told him that both Elbaneh and her new husband were killed when they were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

"She had alot of friends in this building," says Hazan, "Always a smiling face. She will be sorely missed."
