W Seneca Town Board Fighting Court on Downsizing Rule

The West Seneca town board has voted to appeal a court ruling that places a voter referendum on the ballot in November,  to see if voters wish to pare down the size of the board.

The appeal was approved by the board Monday evening, after a court upheld the right of activist Kevin Gaugan and others to call for the downsizing, depsite a ruling from the Erie County Board of Elections saying Gaughan's referendum petitions were invalid.

"With their action today, the town board is proving beyond any doubt that they do not want citizens to exercise their right in a voting booth and I think that's just terribly sad and terribly wrong,"  Gaughan says.
