East Aurora Pilot Crashes
Allan Harris
(Rochester, NY) - An East Aurora pilot is lucky to be alive. 40-year-old Paul Treichler had just taken off from the Greater Rochester International Airport yesterday when his vintage 1947 Viper Jet had engine problems. He attempted to return to the airport but missed the runway. Teichler reportedly suffered a back injury and was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester where he was listed in satisfactory condition.
The antique plane had been restored and was once owned by actor John Travolta. The plane had been kept at the airport in Batavia and that was where Treichler was reportedly heading. The crashed closed on runway in Rochester for about 3 hours. The plane was taken off in pieces on a flatbed truck. The FAA is investigating.
