Orchard Park, NY (WGR 550) -- Josh Reed was running on his own on the sideline today at practice inside the stadium. Dick Jauron said he was wrong yesterday, Reed's injury is an ankle. Shawn Nelson was taking part in individual drills, but he was not in shoulder pads, he was limited. Paul Posluszny was still just watching.
Geoff Hangartner returned to practice on a limited basis. Jauron said, "It was a good progression, he worked from nothing yesterday and took a number of reps, not as many as he'd normally take." Terrence McGee and Leodis McKelvin were both limited. It's a worry with Drew Brees coming in here and both your starting corners are limited on Thursday. Jauron said, "I would say Leodis probably moved a little better than Terence, but they both were involved to some degree." John McCargo was added to the injury report as limited with a calf problem.
Roscoe Parrish was full go. Jauron said, "Roscoe looked good, he moved well so it was a good day for him."
Under coach Bob Sanders the defensive line has shown a lot of improvement the first two games. The two that have made the biggest strides are Kyle Williams and Spencer Johnson. Johnson is a DT, but has been getting reps during games at right DE too. Johnson said, "It's not a big deal, I've done it before. You still have to play offensive linemen, you still have to play your technique so it's pretty much the same thing." He feels comfortable when he goes out there at end. He said, "Mainly when I go in there, it's for a run down. It's just a package we got, you still got to do the same thing and the same technique." The transformation of the two lines has happened pretty quickly. Now of course there's still room for plenty of improvement, but they're further along than many thought they would be. Johnson credits Sanders, "I think it's another year of playing together, coach Sanders came in and does a great job at teaching us pass rush techniques. We've been working at it the whole off season so now it's time to put it on the field."
