Pembroke Officials: Flu No Longer Ruled Out in Student's Death
WBEN Newsroom Reporting
Buffalo, NY -- Pembroke Central School District officials are backing off of an earlier statement that influenza was ruled out as the cause of a student's death late last week.
But the district's latest online statement says that officials from the Genesee County Health Department and the New York State Department of Health still haven't reached a definitive conclusion as to what killed the student, who has now been identified as fifth-grader, Jared Peters.
Peters' family has announced wake and funeral mass plans. Calling hours will be held Sunday, October 25 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Wendell and Loecher Funeral Home, located at 27 Aurora Street in Lancaster. Peters' funeral will take place Monday, October 26 at 9:30 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, located at 1 St. Mary's Hill in Lancaster.
Superintendent Gary Mix, Pembroke Central's physician and officials from the Genesee County Health Department maintain, no other students are at risk. Schools will open as usual on Monday morning.
