Newark, NJ (WGR 550) -- Andrew Peters says he won't be in the line up tonight for New Jersey. The former Sabres bruiser hasn't dressed for the Devils last three games. Peters says he likes his new team although admitted getting to know new teammates is the hardest part. Peters played his whole career in Buffalo, but the Sabres didn't offer him a new deal. In 200 games as a Sabre covering five seasons Peters scored four goals with three assists and 557 minutes in penalties. Lindy Ruff said earlier in the week they decided not to carry a guy that only fights because he likes the make up of his fourth line now with Paul Gaustad, Pat Kaleta and Matt Ellis. He loves the fact they've chipped in with five goals this season.
New Jersey comes in with a three game winning streak and six wins in seven games. All but one of those victories came on the road. The Devils are 1-3-0 at home.
Martin Brodeur has played in every game posting a 2.42 goals against and .915 save percentage. That compared to NHL leader Ryan Miller who has a 1.69 goals against and .940 save percentage.
Derek Roy still has not scored a goal for Buffalo, yet he's their leading scorer with seven points. Tim Connolly and Clarke MacArthur both have six. Across the hall it's Zach Parise leading the way with six goals and six assists. Travis Zajac has ten points.
Neither team is in the top half of the league on either special teams unit.
Toni Lydman skated today and said his groin is improving, but it's not good enough to play.
New Jersey just got hit with two major injuries. Underrated defenseman Paul Martin is out with a broken arm. Jay Pandolfo has a shoulder problem. Both will miss four to six weeks.
Join Schopp and the Bulldog for the pregame at 6:00. Joining them will be Lindy Ruff, Henrik Tallinder and Drew Stafford.
