Shhhhhhhh! Ty Pennington and ABC's "Extreme Home Makeover" begins a massive volunteer house building for a needy hero on Buffalo's East Side Saturday. Here's what we've found out on the sly:
Where will it be? The exact location is a secret, although 5 homeowners on Buffalo's East Side have been told they are in the running. A staging area has been set up east of downtown near Sheehan Emergency Hospital. On "Doorknock Day", workers and equipment will likely parade to the worksite from there. The entire block will be off limits for a full week.
How Many People will they use?
With help from Americorps, they are looking for caterers to donate 200-300 meals for volunteers over 106 hours, according to the DavidHomes Extreme.com website, set up by the contractor David Homes.
What will they create?
While the location is a closely held secret, a look at the list of items they are requesting donations on (below) gives a hint at the kinds of furnishings and art that will go into the house.
They are looking for specialty welders, embroiderers, and even a leaded glass expert for a special project to be determined. They are seeking someone who can make custom furniture, and have also requested plexiglass donations.
The listing also refers to the need for a muralist, several graphic specialists and a printer "to print original photos taken by local photographer on doorknock day. These will be framed and hung in the house."
In addition, several of the listings refer to onsite work that will be done inside the contractor's "ArtWorld" tent, "where we make and finish our theme room furniture and special projects". The ads also seek someone who can help fashion "a simple yet fabulous custom sofa."
How to Help: Volunteer Opportunities
David Homes needs Skilled Tradesmen.
"We will be building the home in just 106 hours," they say.
This will be a 24 hour work day.
Because of this we will need to plug you into the schedule based on our needs.
Once selected, the contractor will send you your assignment and work times in advance of the build.
