Two for Three

(WGR 550) -- Two teams in different spots in the standings will go for their third-straight win when the Sabres and Leafs face off in Toronto at 7 p.m. Monday. The game is a Versus affair, so the only way to hear Rick Jeanneret is right here on WGR.

Buffalo has rebounded from a moribund four-game losing skid to beat the Flyers and Hurricanes. Friday's win over Philadelphia was a gutsy endeavor that cost them a couple players in Paul Gaustad and Craig Rivet, but Saturday's defeat of Carolina was disconcerting on another level. The Sabres did nothing for two periods before springing for five third-period goals to clobber the cellar-dwelling Canes, 5-1.

Toronto scored back-to-back road wins over Tampa Bay and Florida by scoring a combined 10 goals. It's something they've needed to do in order to get wins, as their goaltending and defending has been downright horrible. Their best statistical goaltender, Jonas "The Monster" Gustavsson has been slightly-better than a nightmare, with a 3.23 goals against average and .900 save percentage.

The Leafs can score, mostly because they've had to if they want any chance of winning. Former Dallas Star forward Niklas Hagman paces the attack, with 13 goals in 23 games. Despite being middle of the pack in goals scored per game, Toronto is dead last in goals allowed per game (3.55, .02 ahead of Carolina).

Meanwhile, Buffalo's Ryan Miller has been the best statistical goaltender in the league. His incredible save of Rod Brind'Amour on Saturday night aside, the Sabres netminder has a league best 1.93 goals against average and also tops the NHL in save percentage (.933).

Puck drop tonight is at 7 p.m., with Mike Schopp and The Bulldog manning pregame festivities with Rick Jeanneret at 6 p.m.
