Let me quantify my post from last night (2nd from top). I served 22 years in the military on active duty. I never, while in uniform have felt this disenchanted with this county. I have seen the gov't run healthcare for 22 plus years. What a joke. I can't even get treatment for service connect disabilities (60% rating) in a expedient time frame. I, while also drawing a military retirement, currently feel like this is wrong. WAY TO GO "CHANGE YOU CAN COUNT ON". Complete discust!! We need to do something. 225 years and it only takes the current congress less than 2 years to destroy OUR constitution.

It is convenient to criticize LaFalce for equating healtcare in this country to parts of Africa, but it is even more convenient to ignore statistics that prove that, on a number of key levels, the US lacks the requisite medical care and coverage in terms of care that put it behind several third - world countries in terms of care being given. Let's face it, we can all disagree, but the TRUTH is very simple; The healthcare industry is broken, and whether Democrat, Republican, Independant or Tea Partier, you have to look at the facts; no one beside the left has done anything to address this problem since Nixon was in office. It seems as if members of the right ignore the problems until it affects them directly. For instance, Bauerle has referenced his daughter's diabetes multiple times. Upon gradyuating from college, under the system that we have had, the likelihood that she would be offered insurance at the same level that her prospective co-workers would pay is not likely, if she qualified for insurance at all. I can speak from a position of experience on this issue. I am a relatively new employee in a local company, and when the issue of insurance arose, I was immediately denied coverage, because my diabetes is considered a "pre-existing condition." Luckily my employer has a provision for offering different coverages from an additional insurance provider. Unfortunately, even though I am in good health, I will now pay twice the amount of what a "healthy" co-worker will pay. Now, under the new agreement, I am covered. If Tom or any other "commentator"supported this, how come we never heard about it sooner? How come we never heard about the CBO numbers in regards to the Bush tax cuts, and how much the deficit would grow because of it? Simple, it doesn't fit the argument. It's easy to point fingers, address the Obama administration as "socialist, facist, etc.," but it has always struck me as funny that the majority of those who seem to take a lot of time to complain, bitch and moan will ikely be helped by the bill. Most of those I see are middle-aged, possibly on the cusp of Social Security or Medicaid/Medicare, and I wounder what those retirees and seniors think about government programs that have kept them alive and in respectable health in the last years of their lives.

I am so sick and tired of paying well over 50% of my income to the government. To "Socialism and School Taxes", school taxes are the biggest bane of my life. I would much rather take my money and pay it to a private school for my kids, but that is not allowed. The $14K I pay now is not worth the education they get, trust me, but it's law, and I like my property, so I have to pay it. I have no choice. Same with health care. If I don't pay these taxes for others to have the health care that they don't want to work for, then I guess I have no choice with that either. BUT, I can choose to work less, own less, and close my business, and I'm sure a lot of people will do the same. There is no reward for working hard anymore...we punish productivity in this country and award slothfulness.

I have just learned of an ammedment within the reconciliation bill which will cut Medicare reimbursement rates for all outpatient imaging facilities between 50-75%. This is clearly a move to put all CT and MRI scanners that arent in hospitals out of business. No business can sustain revenue cuts on that order. The result? Rationing of these services. Once all of the outpatient imaging facilities close there will be prolonged delays for imaging services. Delayed diagnoses of cancer, stroke, etc. In essence, trading lives for money and control. How do these guys look at themselves in the mirror in the morning? How do you tell your elderly parents who worked all of thier life and payed Social Security that they can't get the medical care they need while they have payed for the medical care of the elderly their whole working lives? This is just wrong.

Recipients open this official-looking letter and it asks leading and ridiculous questions that fuel the ignorant fires. Oh, and it also asks for money to be sent it. A reply: I, as you, per your response, have health care as well. Unfortunately, like most of the people in this area, I do not have a binding "contract" that guarantees my health care. And, while your premium may go up, I can guarantee you that your premium does not increase nearly as much as mine has. In the past 3 years, again, because of ongoing treatment for diabetes, mu premium has triple, while other "healthy" coworkers have seen a moderate increase. I can also guarantee you that, speaking from experience, your ability to garner health insurance through your employer is a whole lot more difficult, and in some cases impossible should you enter the workforce with any preexisting conditions, such as my diabetes. Another example, please follow. Sarah Pailin, ex Governor of Alaska has a son with Down's Syndrome. Lucky for her, she had her son while serving the state government, having a "contract" with an insurance provider enabled her to include him on her family's insurance. If she was a private citizen, not so likely, as more than 95% of health care providers consider any disease noted either prior to birth or at the time of birth as , you guessed it, a preexisting condition. All I am trying to convey is that, while operating and existing under the talking points of those who oppose this plan convey does nothing to further the debate, and does nothing to possibly improve the direction of this legislation in the future. It has continued to amaze me that those who oppose this legislation simply do not have, or they do not sympathize with those who suffer because of the current practices that have lead to those in the healthcare industry that have profited from those who have or continue to suffer. Perhaps the issue of rationing services across the board concerns you? Already happens. My provider has a clause in their premium stating that, should I visit the ER or am admitted to the hospital, I have 24 hours to contact the provider directly, and if I do not, they can do one of two things; cancel my premium, or charge me out-of-network coverage, causing my out-of-pocket expenses to skyrocket, which is a form of rationing. The system is broken, and has been for years, and lets face it, the right wants nothing to do with fixing it. $1.5 million a day in lobbying monies tossed around Washington. Roughly 3 lobbyist per member of Congress. Take a look at why the majority of the right opposes this, a Washington Post article that published the amount that the healthcare industry has "donated" to members of Congress. It is very simple; without legislation that even attempts to reform the industry, those who conveniently oppose its reform now will continue to profit, while those at the trough will continue to get fat. A broken system, even worse, a corrupt, broken minority.

This isn't the health reform we wanted!! My idea of health care reform is not airports in exchange for abortions and the list goes on! The dems claim they are doing this for the uninsured because they have such a high regard for life yet they insist on killing the unborn babies and I cannot understand how anyone can reconcile these two statements! They make no sense: you either value life or you don't!! And, they didn't have to dismantle our freedoms to do this reform. This should have been a straight up bill with only health care issues in it, but wait. Straight up or straight forward is not in bHo's vocabulary, is it?

Why all this anger now? We've shipped ourt jobs overseas, we taxed the working class beyond belief. We lost our loved one's to war..But now all these haters are spilling all this venom. WHY?? I think I know why but will not say. baurle is a knob!

I wish people would stop equating "cost" with "care". This new law requires everyone to pay the same regardless of their use of the care. If you have a pre-existing condition, it used to cost you more because your use of the care is assured. Just as a driver with a number of accidents pays more for insurance because he is a bigger risk. With this new law the only risk they assess is age. You will be denied care not coverage because of your age. The government protocols provide age limits for certain treatments such as heart surgeries or joint replacements. I don't know the ages yet, but in Britain a 75 year old is not eligible for a heart valve replacement because of age. I do not consider this an imporvement...a fifty year old overweight smoker can receive the surgery, but a trim, fit 75 year old non-smoker cannot. This law, as I understand it, has taken this decision making out of the hands of the doctors. And you might say that insurance companies deny treatments now, which is true. But, I have known many people to appeal their decisions and win. No one will be able to appeal the government mandate. Proof that your care will suffer even though cost coverage is assured is in the fact that Congress has exempted themselves from this system. Just give me one good reason why Congress should not be covered under a law they have decided for the rest of us. This is a horrendous law on many levels. First, it is wrong for the government to force all of its citizens to purchase insurance whether they want it or not. We are only forced to buy auto insurance if we own and drive a car. We are only forced to have home insurance if we have a mortgage. Insurance is optional otherwise. With this law everyone is forced to buy insurance if they are living! Second, health decisions should be between the doctor and patient and should not be restricted in any way by government mandates. I can understand insurance not covering with payments some treatments if it is determined they are not necessary, but doctors should not be prohibited from performing the treatment with threat of fines or jail....which is my understanding of the new law. Third, Social Security and Medicare are a "mess" and do not work. Both government run and mandated programs are going broke. People do not love them, they were forced into them and they are not entitlements, we bought and paid for them through mandated taxes. Most of us would be better off if government had not taxed us and let us provide for our own retirement and medical care. Because of the programs many people stopped planning for their own future and began to rely on the government programs. This is not what we should be incentivizing our citizens to do. Fourth, on principle alone the law should not have been passed. It is wrong to pass something so highly controversial without any support from the other major party. Good Presidential leadership would not have us in this position. He should have worked with both sides of the aisle until he gained some support then we would not have the anger we are experiencing today. The Democrats in control now have an unbelievable attitude that "I won so I can make all the rules and do it my way". Such arrogance is dangerous. And lastly, we cannot afford this law. We cannot afford to support all the people we have in this country who refuse to work and help themselves or abuse the programs with fraudulent claims. Instead of complaining that the "rich" don't pay enough, we should focus on the fact that if everyone contributed something to the benefits we all enjoy: free education, parks, highways, military, police, libraries, etc., we would not be in this trouble. The problem is we have too large a segment of the population that enjoys all the benefits (and then some) and contribute nothing.

I understand your position, I too have conditions which could preclude me from coverage or increase my premiums too, fortunately when I needed medical services there wasn't an issue. The real issue for my choice to oppose this bill is simply due to it's true failure to address the real issues causing costs to soar. Some states have acted on tort reform that successfully, and significantly reduced the cost of insurance for their states residents. It also created and environment where more doctors have now relocated to their states. Additionally, the government taxes, quite heavily, the medical industries; this does nothing to reduce our costs, whether we pay out of pocket or through insurance. This bill is going to raise those taxes even more, so any real reduction in costs may not materialize at all. Additionally, virtually all government programs have been significantly mismanaged, poorly estimated, and are now causing our nation to go into debt. This new program is likely to do much more of the same. Since when does the government increase it's spending and reduce the costs to us? Never! Now we are going to have thousands of more government employees to pay, requiring us to pay even more in taxes when we can least afford it. I think there are definitely much better alternatives to accomplishing coverage which is more evenly balanced in cost and coverage for everyone than what this bill will accomplish. I believe had the door been opened for these companies to compete across state lines we'd have seen better choices and lower costs. After all, if one provider didn't offer something you'd want, another company who wanted your business would. Mass. has implemented a system similar in nature to this new government plan and it has done nothing to contain cost either, they've gone up dramatically. Also, the surgery I required several years ago costs $40k in the US, but more than 50 percent more in Canada where the government controls the costs. Isn't that ironic? Sure, there are many issues with people having adequate affordable coverage, but I don't believe the federal government dictating what we can and cannot have is reasonable either; it should have been left up to the individual states to decide what works best for their residents. After all, the federal government has enacted legislation designed to cover the nation and it doesn't work very well for everyone everywhere. Sure, our system isn't perfect, but it's the best system in the world, and any plans from the government should not jeopardize it's quality or innovation. Sadly, this bill does.
