Tea Party Express Comes To Buffalo
Barbara Burns Reporting
Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) The national Tea Party Express rolled into downtown Buffalo today with a message for those disgruntled with the Obama Administration.
With their efforts focused on the 2010 elections, Tea Party members vow to defeat the likes of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Hundreds gathered for the rally at the Commercial Clip on Buffalo's Inner Harbor. Some dressed in persiod costume, Uncle Sam even showed up. The event included entertainment and spekers including former Saturday Night Live cast member Victoria Jackson says said of member of the Obama administration "they use cheating and lying and bribing and what we use, who are fighting for liberty, is wisdom and love and truth."
Rapper David Saucedo, who goes by the name Politick, is from Waco, Texas, one of the poorest cities in the U-S. He's traveling with the Tea Party Express and says the movement is well received across the country. "Very, very motivated, people are upset about this health care bill, not only the health care bill...people who have been sleeping for a long time...are standing up."
Local reform advocated Leonard Roberto spoke briefly at the rally and announced rather than run for the NYS Senate against Dale Volker that local republican leaders have asked him to challenge democratic congressman Brian Higgins instead.
But the rally was not without opposition. A small but loud crowd gathered at the entrance to the Commercial Slip. Ellie Dorritie with the International Action Center says "the Tea Party Express is part of a national move to destroy all of the things that we've all fought for, that we need in order to survive including the safety net." Those in opposition chanted "jobs are a right, fight, fight, fight."
The event lasted two hours before the tea Party Express rolled out of Buffalo headed for Suracuse. The tour wraps up Thursday in Washington D-C.
